Rockville Musical Theatre announces auditions for our summer production of 9 to 5: The Musical

Sunday, April 19
Auditioners will be asked to list previous performance experience (you may attach a resume), take a photograph, and list all conflicts from April 27-July 19
Please prepare a vocal selection of no more than 32 bars of music. Auditioners are responsible for providing their own sheet music (please do not sing something from the show). A pianist will be provided for you. Please arrive dressed to dance, as there may not be time to change prior to the dance call. Jazz shoes, character shoes, or comfortable sneakers are suggested.
Audition appointments are not required.
To ensure that the audition process moves swiftly and efficiently, it is recommended that auditioners complete paperwork prior to arrival.
9 to 5 The Musical Character Breakdown
(Age ranges listed indicate the age of the character not the actor)
Violet Newstead – A widowed mother of a teenage son, she is tired of being overlooked for a well-deserved promotion. She runs the office from her desk while her boss takes the credit. She is frustrated with her position, but not bitter. Witty and sharp with a dry/sarcastic comedic delivery.
Age Range: 40s- Early 50s
Vocal Range: F3-D5
Doralee Rhodes – A young, sexy spitfire with a heart of gold. The object of Mr. Hart’s lustful affections. She is misunderstood, but there’s more to her than just good looks. A warm, personable, optimistic, country gal.
Age Range: 20s-Early 30s
Vocal Range: G3-E5
Judy Bernly – The ‘new girl’ at the firm. A former housewife making her first foray into the work force after her husband runs off with his secretary. Meek, insecure, and somewhat uptight at first. Through the events of the play we see her become a confident, determined, and empowered force to be reckoned with.
Age Range: late 30s-40s
Vocal Range: Ab3-F5
Franklin Hart, Jr. –The smarmy, chauvinistic boss at Consolidated. A ‘Sexist, Egotistical, Lying, Hypocritical, Bigot.’
Age Range: 40s-50s
Vocal Range: C3-Gb4
Roz Keith – Mr. Hart’s attentive administrative assistant. Harbors an unrequited love for her boss and will do anything to win his approval, including spying on the other employees. Strong character actress required.
Age Range: 40s-early 50s
Vocal Range: G3-C5
Joe – A handsome young office accountant. Genuine, nice, and smitten with Violet.
Age Range: 30s (There is a 10-15-year age gap between Joe and Violet)
Vocal Range: B2-G4
Dwayne Rhodes – Doralee’s husband. Supportive of her professional pursuits and loves her for everything she is.
Age Range: 20s-30s
Vocal Range: E2-G4
Josh Newstead – Violet’s teenage son.
Age Range: 15-18
Dick Bernly –Judy’s sleazy ex-husband.
Missy Hart – Franklin’s wife, clueless to her husband’s true nature.
Margaret – A secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to drink.
Maria – A young and vibrant secretary at Consolidated.
Kathy – A secretary in the office with a tendency to gossip.
Bob – Hart’s yes-man. Trained by Violet but promoted over her.
Tinsworthy – Chairman of the board at Consolidated. May be wiser to Hart’s ways than he lets on.
