Thank you, Tom Reed!
RMT would lke to extend a huge, heartfelt "thank you" to Tom Reed, who recently retired and moved, with his wife Barbara, out of the DC area. Tom was one of the founders of RMT, and since the group's first show back in 1974, he worked in some capacity on every single show through 2005 - sixty (60) musicals in all! Aside from spending many years as RMT's Lighting Designer, he also served in a number of other roles for the group, including music director, stage manager, producer, stagehand and more. Tom also spent many years on the RMT Board of Directors, with most of those as the RMT Treasurer, and he also coordinated the RMT/RLT Consortium.
Those of us in the RMT community today can look back and thank Tom for helping to make the group what it is today. From a very inauspicious beginning, where he and the other founders rummaged through Sears dumpsters looking for set pieces and then put up $900 of their own money to produce RMT's first show, "Bells Are Ringing" in the gymnasium of Broome Junior High School, to our current large-scale musicals in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater, Tom guided and nurtured multiple generations of RMTers. His talent, creativity, and passion will all be sorely missed, but his impact will remain for years to come.
